Now that our staff at the women’s store have stopped bouncing off the walls over the arrival of the truly exceptional Lauren Moffatt Fall 2012 collection we just received at Still Life For Her, we can sit down and share the brand story and Fall 2012 selection with the rest of Victoria.
Philadelphia native Lauren Moffatt graduated from Chestnut Hill College with a Fine Arts degree. Driven by her knack for prints and love for all-things vintage, she always knew she wanted to pursue fashion design. At the age of 24, Moffatt left her job as a graphic designer and moved to New York City to pursue her dream. In October of 2000, she launched her first vintage-chic women’s ready-to-wear collection.
For her first two seasons, Moffatt sewed several hundred pieces at home on her 31-foot sailboat docked on New York’s Hudson River before select NYC boutiques began stocking her collections. Since developing the brand and selling in shops around the world, Lauren Moffatt has been named “Designer-to-Watch” by both WWD and Vogue. Then, and now, Moffatt’s love of art and modern design, as well as her unique sensibility for color, textures and details has made her namesake collection a favorite of Hollywood starlets and real girls alike.
Fall 2012 sees Lauren Moffatt pull inspiration from a “School for Wayward Girls” of sorts. First shown during New York Fashion Week in a makeshift classroom at St Patrick’s Old Cathedral School in New York City, the collection sees Lauren Moffatt play up the timeless undone look of the schoolgirl with just a hint of mischievousness. Never tipping into costume or exploitive territory, the selection features gorgeous printed silks, cozy knit sweaters and dreamy creamy lace dresses.
