Ken Diamond spent the evening chatting up old friends, great customers, leather superfans and anyone else who strolled through the shop doors as we stayed open late and watched the sunset. With a full set of custom lettering stamps and all his leather crafting tools on hand, Ken was also happy to create some custom one-of-a-kind items for those in attendance. From monogramed handstitched leather beer cozies to vintage buckled vegetan leather belts we had Ken working all night in between beers.

Dace arose from the skill and creativity of designer Dace Moore, a Blanche Macdonald fashion design graduate and local Vancouverite. Ganni pursues one idea: To create sexy and playful clothes for women. Clothes that are not too tricky, nothing too fashion, just gorgeous. The kind of clothes that is created from allure, not trends. By abolishing the diktats of a total look in favor of clothing adapted to each girl’s personality, Ganni creates best-loved items for the wardrobe. Not necessarily iconic classics, but true favorites that make a girl feel good about herself. Ganni doesn’t believe in the idea of one single designer personifying entire collections again and again, but rather exchanging ideas. Together Ganni blends past classics with the best of the present – to create collections that are sexy and vibrant.

We introduced the beautiful Danish offerings from Ganni to the Still Life For Her faithful this past AW12 and the response was fantastic. Girls of all shapes, sizes, colours, personalities and styles found something to love from the incredible variety offered by Ganni. This spring/summer collection has received just as much love from our girls, and we’re excited to introduce even more Victoria fashionistas to one of our favourite Scandinavian fashion brands.

This season Ganni produced another beautiful video showcasing their spring/summer 2013 collection. The atmospheric new video mixes home video aesthetics and vulnerable melancholia and leaves viewers longing for long, playful spring days in the countryside.

‘It’s always fun to see our clothes worn in a situation, a movement or a special setting, instead of on a hanger or dummy, so it felt very natural for us to produce a presentation video again this year” says Ditte Reffstrup, Creative Director of Ganni, “Our spring collection is inspired by the intense atmosphere in Sofia Coppola’s movie The Virgin Suicides, and we wanted to build on that feeling, but twisted in Ganni‘s own way. Both the collection pieces and the video play with moods from dark and sensual to naïve and uplifting’.

The video was shot by fashion photographer Olivia Frölich and cinematographer Frederik Säll, who were also behind the camera on the last three Ganni videos. The soundtrack is by the Danish band Cours Lapin who mixes French boudoir style with quirky upbeat tempo.

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Eliza Faulkner graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design and Marketing in 2008 from a little school called Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design in London back in 2008. Eliza has since gained valuable work experience in the London studios of Erdem, Zandra Rhodes, and Roland Mouret before launching her namesake label in 2012.

Returning to her inspiring home on Vancouver Island to design and create, Eliza Faulkner‘s small collection of ready-to-wear dresses and tops didn’t take long to get noticed, catching the eye of fashion editors across the country and landing itself a home at Still Life For Her this season. Available now, Eliza Faulkner‘s SS13 Collection features pre-washed linen and cotton blends with an athletic touch (contrast piping, chevon colour-blocking, etc) all imbeccably finished with French seams and bias-bound edges. Her elegant esthetic is further reflected in her use of natural fabrics and clean lines spanning across all designs in this spring/summer collection.

A collection designed for the discerning womenswear shopper who want to look good without the fuss, many of Eliza Faulkner‘s Canadian-made designs are blended stretch/linens with sporty details like power mesh (secretly forgiving as it sucks in and smooths to cover).

Founded in 2002 by Reid Stewart and Trevor Fleming, beneath a buzzing light bulb in a dingy basement suite, Lifetime Collective began as a collaborative group of artists and friends. With clothing as the main focus, Lifetime is inspired by the communities we live in, the places we travel to, and the curious characters that surround us. It is a family-spirited operation receptive to ideas that are shifting and paths that are twisting. More than a “brand of lifestyle,” Lifetime is defined by the changes that occur and the creative ways we adapt. In fact, the theme of Lifetime should be, “a work in progress,” as it is ever-changing and far from finished, a dream never fully realized.

We’re really stoked to begin working with the entire family at Lifetime Collective. This season sees lots of perfect west coast spring/summer styles arriving at both shops at wonderfully approachable price points (save your money for tall cans and fish tacos, right?!). Tanks, tees, shirting, shorts & lightweight knitwear abounds at Still Life For Him.

At Still Life For Her, a slightly different story is told by Lifetime Collective this season, as their womenswear designer for SS13 and FW13 is none other than Still Life friend for life, Jude Feller (formerly of our favourite made in Vancouver brand, Lily+Jae). This season, new premium leather, fabrics and silhouettes have been introduced. Three styles are available now in store at Still Life For Him, and right here on our online store, that cross over from retro-punk stompers to perfectly wearable modern dress footwear – with an edge.

We’ve received two styles from Dr. Martens‘ Windsor collection – carrying a regal name and a superior presence these styles are lower than traditional Dr. Martens, more at home with slim denim and chinos at summer events than kicking through the mud at an outdoor punk fest. From Dr. Marten’s Industrial Division we’ve received the 8250 Chelsea Boot that we know we’ll be seeing on the feet of some of our devoted customers just about every day for the next three years. Made well, carrying a heavy-presence and a heavy-duty construction, all of the new Dr. Martens we’ve received can handle whatever you have planned for them.
